Hillcrest House is situated in idyllic Peak District countryside. Our garden offers refuge to many birds and wildlife, including hedgehogs, woodpeckers, rabbits and stoats. Sheep are often resident on our 3 acre pasture and in spring you can enjoy watching the lambs. One of the most popular walking and nature destinations - Dovedale - is literally on our doorstep. After your walk you can enjoy a pot of tea and a cake, or a glass of wine, in our gardens with fantastic views of Thorpe Cloud.

A highly individual 17th-century house containing some fabulous interiors including the superb Great Staircase. The National Trust Museum of Childhood also on the site includes a recreated Victorian schoolroom.

Dovedale

Dovedale

Dovedale is a valley in the Peak District of England. The land is owned by the National Trust, and annually attracts a million visitors. The valley was cut by the River Dove and runs for just over 3 miles (5 km) between Milldale in the north and a wooded ravine near Thorpe Cloud and Bunster Hill in the south. In the wooded ravine, a set of stepping stones cross the river, and there are two caves known as the Dove Holes.

Dovedale's other attractions include rock pillars such as Ilam.

The Tissington Trail runs along a 13 mile route from Ashbourne to Parsley Hay. Surrounded by beautiful countryside the traffic-free trail is ideal for horse riders, cyclists, naturalists and walkers. It is suitable for wheel chairs and pushchairs along the flat sections.
